Welcome to Brazil
Stand-Alone Time-Sensitive Quest.

You are walking through campus when your friends come up to you, excited smiles on their faces.
Payton: Danny! You’ll never guess the good news!
Danny: Hmmm... does it have something to do with puppies?
Mia: We didn’t mean for you to ACTUALLY guess. We’re just going to tell you.
Danny: Oh! Sure.
Nishan: My cousins had some tickets to a series of sport events in South America, but due to an emergency back home, they won’t be able to attend the last match. Apparently it’s a pretty popular event...
Julian: World Cup! He’s talking about the WORLD CUP! This is huge!
Autumn: And Nishan’s cousins have him their tickets to that last game! There are enough for us all to go! Nishan’s the best!
Autumn throws her arms around Nishan in a big hug. Nishan smiles, blushing slightly.
Nishan: Hey, what are friends for? Anyway, we’d still have to cover travel expenses, but this is a chance for a great trip to Brazil!
Your friends erupt into excited chattering.
Payton: OMG! Rio de Janeiro! I can’t wait! The shopping!
Ezra: The beaches!
Nishan: The diverse ecosystem!
Julian: Have I mentioned the World Cup?! Because WORLD CUP! Taking to the streets with packed hordes of diehard soccer fans, cheering and chanting!
Mia: Ugh, is that supposed to be a good thing? Getting stuck in crowds of sweaty sports fans? No, thanks. I’ll be enjoying the FINER things Brazil has to offer. I graciously volunteer myself as trip planner. Stick with me, and we’ll be attending the hottest pool parties, eating at the most renowned dining spots, and sipping the most decadent drinks we can find... all while getting gorgeously tanned!
Julian: Typical Mia. If we let YOU plan the trip, we’ll probably be paying to walk on red carpets every step of the way.
Mia: Like that’s a bad thing? You think you could plan a better trip?
Julian: I know I could!
Mia: Oh, THIS I’d love to see.
Julian: Is that a challenge? Leave all the planning to me, and I KNOW people will have the time of their lives!
Mia: Fine. Plan away. But expect a MILLION I-told-you-so’s when your plans end up lame!
Julian and Mia continue to bicker as the others talk excitedly. Amidst the clamor, Autumn pulls you aside...
Autumn: I think there might be something going on between Julian and Mia... and I don’t mean that in a good way...
Danny: What DO you mean?
Autumn: It’s hard to explain, but I think if you came with us to Brazil you’d see for yourself. You’re coming, aren’t you?
Requirements
After a long flight, your plane finally touches down in Rio de Janeiro! A cab ride later, you and your friends are backpacking through the bustling streets of the city! Soccer fans in bright patriotic colors flock through the streets. Nearby, fruit markets buzz with activity, and the sweet aroma of fresh produce wafts through the air!
Payton: Oh my gosh... I don’t know where to start! Should we shop for more swimsuits? I only brought nine!
Ezra: Forget shopping. How quickly can we get to the BEACH?
Nishan: Now THAT’S what I’m talking about!
Nishan and Ezra share a solid high-five!
Nishan: Checking out the marine and avian wildlife is gonna be off the CHAAAIN!
Ezra: Uh, sure! That too, Nish. That too.
Julian: We’ll get to all of that eventually, guys. But there’s still so much of the city I planned to see! The Botanical Garden, all the fruit markets...
Mia: So you’re having us smell flowers and go grocery shopping?
Julian: Trust me, it’s SO much more than that. Come on!
Midday rolls around, and you and your friends are still exploring the streets of Rio, from the Botanical Garden to the Christ the Redeemer Statue!
Nishan: Is anyone else getting hungry?
Danny: I’m starving! Let’s get some food!
Julian: I’m dying to try all the street food they show on travel shows! Fun AND easy on the wallet!
Mia: Street food? How does putting the word ‘street’ in front of something make it better? Nobody is dying to use the street bathroom. I’ll gladly pay more to eat at an ACTUAL restaurant.
Julian: Hey, break the bank if you want to. I saw a stand on the corner where we can get a pastel and some sugar cane juice!
Payton: What’s a pastel?
Julian: It’s a deep-fried pastry with different fillings, like ground meat, cheese, or--
Nishan: You had me at ‘deep-fried’.
Mia: I am NOT eating a back-alley Hot Pocket. There’s a perfectly good churrascaria right across the street! Servers come around with skewers of grilled steak and slice you a serving right at your table!
Ezra: That DOES sound good...
Danny: I guess we could try both!
Requirements
Later, you all sit at a table on the shaded patio of a restaurant, finishing a delicious meal of steaks, salad, and grilled pineapple... ...except for Julian, who sits on a curb just yards away, happily munching on a pastel.
Julian: Mmmmmmmm!
Mia: Oh, don’t exaggerate, Julian. There’s no way your meal was better than ours. We have forks.
Julian: Come try for yourselves! I got some extra pastéis for everyone!
Nishan: Awesome!
You walk over to Julian, who hands out the crisp fried pastries. You bite into the warm, flaky crust...
Danny: This IS delicious!
Nishan: It’s everything I ever wanted!
Mia: I think I’ll pass. I’m pretty stuffed... stuffed with delicious four-star cuisine.
Julian: Okay, but you’re missing out!
Autumn: What’s next on the agenda?
Danny: We should probably get settled into our lodgings.
Julian: Awesome. I took the liberty of researching a great place to stay!
Mia: Does it have the word ‘street’ in the name?
Julian: No! Trust me, you’ll love it!
Requirements
You and your friends arrive at a modest-looking youth hostel.
Julian: So, everyone, welcome to your home away from home! The best hotel in Brazil!
Mia: Where are the tiny, scented soaps? Where are the little chocolates they put on your pillow? WAIT, why are all the beds in ONE room?
Payton: Oooh, like a big slumber party!
Mia: And where’s the bathroom?
Julian: Well, there’s a shower down the hall...
Mia: You mean we have to ALL share ONE bathroom?!
Nishan: Are you sure this is the BEST hostel in Brazil?
Julian: Well, maybe it’s actually the CHEAPEST hostel. But affordable is good, right?
Autumn: Let’s give it a chance. Here, these beds feel nice and comfy.
Mia tentatively sits on the edge of a bed.
Mia: Well... I guess I could... Eeek! Is that what I think it is?!
Time - 4 hours
Mia: Gross! Ew!
Mia jumps back as a huge spider scurries across the bed.
Mia: That is IT. I’m out of here. I’m getting us REAL rooms at a REAL hotel where they have room service and bellhops and everything a hotel is SUPPOSED to have! Not to mention NO spiders!
Julian: Hey! You can’t just bail on this place!
Mia: I totally can. Look, Julian. You took us to a hovel. Everyone makes mistakes. Luckily for you, I can fix this.
Julian: This place is FINE. It doesn’t need FIXING. Have you ever thought that maybe YOU need to toughen up? One itty-bitty spider isn’t going to kill you.
Mia: Obviously! Because I’m not going to BE here... If anybody is going to get spider- murdered in their sleep, it’s you.
Julian: I’m staying here.
Mia: Well, I’M leaving. Who’s with me? Massages and room service are on me.
Nishan: Er... sorry, Julian, but my shoulders have been REALLY tense lately, what with ‘Community’ getting cancelled...
Payton: Massages?! I’m IN! Thanks, Mia!
Mia: The offer’s open to everyone...
Julian: I’m fine here.
Autumn: Er... I’ll stay with Julian.
Ezra: Me too. Traveling is all about meeting people and really seeing the city. You can’t do that from a five star hotel.
Mia: Whatever. What about you, Danny?
Danny: I’ll stay at the hostel with Julian.
Mia: Fine. See you later.
Mia storms off with Nishan and Payton behind her.
Julian: Thanks for staying, Danny. I appreciate it.
Danny: Hey, I’m not afraid of roughing it! Let’s make some memories.
Ezra: Sounds like it’s time for me to break out my guitar...
Soon, you, Julian, Ezra, and Autumn are sitting with the other guests at the hostel, singing along to songs together.
Ezra: And that’s what youuuu mean to meee!
Everyone cheers.
Ezra: Thank you, thank you.
Autumn: This has been really fun! I wish Mia and the others had given it a chance...
Danny: Speaking of which, we’d better get some sleep. We’re meeting up with them at the beach early tomorrow morning.
Requirements
The next day, you and your friends meet up at the beach!
Payton: OMG! This beach is unreal! That water is so blue!
Autumn: I’m going to take a picture! Smile, everyone!
Danny: Cheese!
Ezra: Okay, enough pictures... we should get to know the locals, am I right?
Ezra points to a group of Brazilian girls in bikinis and guys in Speedos.
Danny: This should be interesting...
Time - 5 hours
Ezra: Hello, everyone! My friends are here for a little futebol event you might’ve heard of.
The crowd laughs.
Ezra: I, on the other hand, came for the bossa nova... Would anyone like to be my backup singer?
Ezra pulls out his guitar and flashes a smile.
Nishan: While Mr. Charming over here goes to work, I’m headed to the water. Who’s with me?
Payton: I am! I love the beach! Those people over there have some cute dogs playing in the water. We could try to make friends... Ooh, or we could build a sand castle! Or try to find some pretty sea shells!
Nishan: I’ve got something in mind that’s even MORE fun...
Payton: Watching a puppy build a sand castle made of shells?
Nishan: No, finding an octopus!
Payton: And now you’ve lost me.
Nishan: I saw a video on YouTube of a psychic octopus who can predict who’s going to win each soccer match!
Payton: Why would I possibly swim around in gross water looking for an even grosser octopus?
Nishan: Well, uh, maybe we could make our own YouTube video, and--
Payton: And become YouTube superstars like Jenna Marbles and get millions of views and become super famous?! I’m so in! Let’s find an octopus!
Nishan: That... was actually easier than I expected.
Julian: I’ll help too. But mostly so I can throw an octopus at Mia.
A little while later, Nishan, Julian, and Payton stand waist-deep in water in a cove...
Nishan: Well, this is disappointing. I figured an octopus would be easy to catch, like a ladybug or the chickenpox. Is anyone else having any luck?
Payton: Nope. But I did find this sea cucumber that goes spluuuuuurgh when you poke him.
Nishan: How about you, Julian?
Julian: Nothing on the octopus front. But I did find this awesome shell shaped like a butt!
Payton: Oh wow! It really is!
Nishan: Well, that’s just... wait! Julian! Look! Stuck on the side of your leg!
Nishan and Payton run over to find a tiny orange octopus stuck to Julian’s leg! Nishan carefully plucks it off...
Nishan: Look at that! It’s a baby!
Payton: She’s so cute! I’m gonna name her Octopal! No! Rocktopus! No! Octoprincess!
Nishan: Name her whatever you want... the real question is how to harness her psychic abilities...
Julian: I feel like we’re all losing sight of the real treasure, which is this shell I found... Which is shaped like a butt.
Danny: Hey, don’t we need to get to the game soon?
Julian: You’re right! Well, we just need to catch a bus to get there.
Danny: Let’s head to the bus stop.
Nishan: We shouldn’t have a problem getting to the game, as long as we can get on a bus without getting separated!
Requirements
At the crowded bus station, a bus headed to your destination pulls to a stop...
Nishan: Quick, we need to get over there!
You make your way over, but the crowd is too thick! You dodge people left and right, making your way to the bus.
Payton: Oof! Excuse me. Pardon me. Hey! Ouch! My foot!
Payton gets separated from your group! Your turn back for Payton and reach out your hand.
Danny: Payton, grab onto me!
Payton: Errk...
Payton latches onto your hand, and you pull her forward! But she trips and stumbles! You catch Payton before she can fall! The two of you leap into the bus right before the doors close!
Payton: Whew! Thanks, Danny!
Nishan: Checkpoint reached! Next stop... soccer!
Julian: Well, THAT wasn’t part of my plan...
Payton: Yeah, almost getting trampled is NOT my idea of fun.
Julian: At least now we’re on the way to the game!
You look out the window and see the view give way to a massive stadium! The bus rolls to a stop. You and your friends get off and head inside!
Payton: Ooh, look at all the colors! Everyone’s dressed up for their team!
Julian: Can’t you feel that excitement? That energy? This is going to be EPIC! I can’t believe we’re really here!
You all trudge along with the thickly packed crowd, making your way to your seats in the hot sun.
Payton: Ugh, this heat... definitely not my favorite part of Brazil...
Mia: My thoughts exactly... which is why I’ve got a surprise for everyone! I upgraded our tickets to luxury box seats!
Nishan: What?
Payton: Awesome!
Julian: No, not awesome. Why did you do that? The seats we had were great!
Requirements
Julian: Why do you keep changing everything about this trip?
Mia: I’m just trying to upgrade it! Everyone knows that box seats are better.
Julian: ‘More expensive’ doesn’t always mean better. How are you going to feel like you’re part of the crowd if you’re up in a box?
Mia: I don’t want to be part of the crowd. I’m perfectly happy above them.
Julian: You can’t always just throw your money around and change everything to your whim.
Mia: It’s called generosity. You’re supposed to say ‘thank you!’
Julian: Thanks for nothing. Give me that ticked. I’m going to trade it back so I can sit with the crowd.
Mia: Fine! Here you go, ingrate!
Julian storms off!
Time - 8 hours
Later, high in your air-conditioned, luxury box seats...
Mia: I can’t believe Julian is being so irrational! He’s completely crazy for doing this, right?
Payton: I don’t know, Mia... Julian worked really hard to plan this trip. You’re being kind of mean to him about it.
Mia: I was just trying to help make it better!
Danny: For some people who don’t have a lot of money... so you see how that can sound pretty harsh?
Mia: I guess, but...
Danny: Can’t you see it from Julian’s perspective?
Mia approaches the glass window overlooking a perfect view of the stadium...
Nishan: You gotta admit... it DOES look pretty fun out there...
Ezra: Everyone, even complete strangers, singing and chanting together...
Mia: I mean... I guess they look happy, but... sitting out there in the hot sun with all of the sweaty, gross crowd?
Danny: That’s one way of looking at it... or you could see it as immersing yourself in an international event!
Mia: But... I’ve never done anything like that.
Danny: Then maybe it’s the perfect time to start!
After trading your luxury box tickets to some local kids, your group climbs through the mobbed crowd to the upper deck.
Julian: Mia? What are you doing out here?
Mia: Well, Danny tells me it’s more fun out here... and I only accept the absolute best, so...
Julian: Then get over here. They’re about to kick off!
From your seats in the nosebleeds, you and your friends cheer your hearts out to an exhilarating match, together with the crowd of 100,000 wild soccer fans! With time running out, it looks like it’s about to go to overtime... but then a midfielder gets free and rockets home a jaw-dropping game-winner!
Julian: Whoa! That’s going on SportsCenter!
The entire stadium erupts in a massive roar, everyone jumping up and down in their seats! Strangers hug and dance, elated! Even Mia is jumping around, high-fiving strangers!
Mia: Wooooo!
After the game, your group files out of the stadium, exhausted from cheering...
Mia: That... was... AMAZING. I’m beat!
Payton: Not allowed! You’s better rally, because the only thing more epic than the World Cup Final is the afterparty!
Requirements
Everyone in the stadium heads down to the beach to party!
Julian: YES! I KNEW they could bring home the win!
Payton: I don’t know much about soccer, but this must be the World Cup of parties! Woo!
Autumn: This was an awesome trip. I’m so glad we all got to come here together!
Mia: Heh. Yeah, this trip was pretty special. I’m sorry I spent so much of it trying to change it...
Julian: Yeah... about that... I’ve got something to say.
Time - 7 hours
Julian: I might’ve been a little too harsh on you. I thought you were trying to change everything about my trip because you thought it wasn’t good enough...
Mia: Uh, well, it DID start out that way. But I really just wanted to help. I didn’t realize how hard you worked planning everything. I’ve just never really been outside of my comfort zone before... and my comfort zone is limited to places with cushy pillows and air conditioning... But I’m glad you convinced me to open up and let the world in. This... was more fun than I thought it’d be. And nothing bad has happened to me. Yet. So, I’m sorry for doubting you. This really was an awesome trip.
Julian: Heh. Okay, now I feel like a jerk. I know you were only trying to make the trip better. And I should’ve let you contribute. I just hate feeling like I couldn’t pay you back.
Mia: I don’t want you to pay me back! I’d never expect that.
Julian: When you don’t have money, sometimes it’s hard to accept help. Especially from a friend. Or at least that’s how I felt... But I guess friends give each other things without keeping score. I get that now.
Payton: Too bad you didn’t have this change of heart sooner, when Mia had all the swanky perks!
Mia: Actually... there’s one last thing. I didn’t want to mention it, but if Julian would be okay with it...
Julian: Whatever it is, I’m in.
Mia: Then I hope everyone’s ready for some VIP partying! I hired a local restaurant to bring down some snacks and drinks for us! And not just for us... for everyone on the beach!
Soon, everyone is eating Brazilian food and sipping delicious, chilled drinks!
Payton: This is the life.
Julian: Soccer, sun, and some of my best friends... I couldn’t ask for more.
Danny: Hehe. I have to say, Brazil has been a blast.
Later, you and your friends prepare to head home...
Payton: Goodbye, gorgeous sunsets and beautiful beaches...
Ezra: Goodbye, gorgeous people and beautiful tourists of Brazil.
Julian: Goodbye, World Cup! It’s been epic.
Nishan: Goodbye, Rocktopus, wherever you are. Try to acquire some decent psychic abilities in the water from whence you came.
Autumn: I’m sad to go... this has been fun!
Mia: Yeah, when is Julian planning his next trip? I could use another adventure. All things considered, I think this was good for me!
Julian: Let’s see, something that would push Mia out of her comfort zone... ooh, maybe we’ll go camping.
Mia: Like, in a cabin?
Julian: Like, in a tent.
Mia: But... where would the bathroom be... Never mind, forget I said anything about adventures!
Thanks for joining us on this Brazilian getaway!
Payton: Danny! You’ll never guess the good news!
Danny: Hmmm... does it have something to do with puppies?
Mia: We didn’t mean for you to ACTUALLY guess. We’re just going to tell you.
Danny: Oh! Sure.

Nishan: We shouldn’t have a problem getting to the game, as long as we can get on a bus without getting separated!
Requirements
- Catch Bus!
- Spend 25,000 coins
- Mia
- Julian
