Requirements
You, Payton, and Mia drive to Autumn’s house and walk around the side.
Payton: Autumn said they’re having an intimate wedding in the backyard.
Danny: Last time we talked, Autumn was worried about handling the wedding on her own. Did she sound okay?
Payton: It was hard to tell. She DID want us here early...
You open the gate and enter the backyard. A floral wedding arch has been set up beneath a shaded tree. Several dozen chairs are stacked against the fence.
Autumn: Thanks for coming, guys. Sorry I’m such a mess.
Mia: You’re not kidding! I mean, uh... why don’t you tell us what happened?
Autumn: I’ve been TRYING to talk to my dad about what I’ve been going through... But he’s been way too busy to even sit down. Now the wedding is THIS afternoon and... and...
Autumn sniffles, and her eyes fill with tears.
Danny: Don’t worry, Autumn. We’re going to figure this out!
Time - 3 hours
Payton: Aww, it’s okay, Autumn. I always cry at weddings too... I mean, usually for different reasons. But the point is, I have loads of tissues in my purse!
Autumn takes a tissue from Payton and dabs her eyes.
Danny: Autumn, is there any way your dad could get some time to talk with you?
Autumn: I really don’t think so... This morning, he has to pick up Charlotte’s family from the airport. Then after THAT, he has errands.
Danny: So if he didn’t have errands, he might be able to talk?
Autumn: Actually... yeah, he probably could!
Mia: Okay, so what kind of errands are we talking about?
Autumn: My dad gave me a list of errands we could help out with. He was going to pick up the flowers from the florist and get the wedding cake from the bakery.
Danny: That’s not too bad--
Autumn: Then there’s picking up the tux, organizing the caterers, and setting up the backyard...
Danny: How about we just start at the top? And since there are four of us, we can even pair up to save time! Payton, maybe you and Mia could go get the--
Payton: CAAAAAKE! I mean, a cake for a party is one thing. But a wedding cake? That’s like the 5th Avenue of regular old avenues!
Danny: Okay then... sounds good! Autumn, let’s get the flowers!
Requirements
You follow Autumn to a local florist.
Autumn: The florist bailed on us at the last minute. We’ve got to go into this flower shop and make the bouquets ourselves!
The two of your scramble about the flower shop, gathering up baby’s breath and white lace...
Danny: Looks good so far!
Autumn: But we still need a primary flower!
Danny: What are you deciding between?
Autumn: Well, white peonies are the flowers Charlotte originally ordered, and they’re gorgeous, but...
Danny: But?
Autumn: I keep thinking about orange lilies. They were my mom’s favorite.
Danny: Hmm, maybe you should go with white peonies! I’m sure Charlotte will appreciate that you’re trying to make her feel welcome! Plus white... wedding... kinda go together!
Autumn: I guess you’re right!
Autumn gathers some white peonies and adds them to the bouquet, arranging them with the utmost care.
Autumn: Perfect.
Autumn carries the precious cargo in her arms as the two of you leave the florist.
Autumn: Thanks for helping me out, Danny.
Danny: It’s my pleasure! I know Charlotte will love the bouquet.
Just then, your phone buzzes with an incoming text.
Autumn: What’s up?
Danny: Hmm. Mia just sent a picture...
Autumn: Ooh, is it the wedding cake? Did they pick it up already?
You open up a picture of Payton standing next to an enormous layer cake that towers over her! The text reads ‘CAKE IS MASSIVE! HELP!!’
Danny: Not quite... Payton and Mia need some major backup!
Requirements
You arrive at the bakery to find Payton and Mia still pondering what to do with the gargantuan cake.
Danny: I’m here! And I brought backup!
Payton: Good... because we need it! This thing weighs a ton!
Alexandra: You’re not kidding! What did they ice it with? Lead?
Berry: I never thought I’d be unhappy to see SO much beautiful cake...
Mia: We have to get it to the car somehow! So get ready to lift!
Time - 6 hours
You all take positions around the enormous cake, getting a grip on the tray beneath it...
Mia: All right people, lift on ‘three’!
Danny: Got it.
Mia: One... Two... ...Three!
You lift your end of the tray in sync with everyone else!
Alexandra: Phew!
Mia: All right, now be careful going through the door...
You approach the bakery’s exit, when...
Payton: Watch the doorway! Move to the right!
You move right! You adjust to the right! The team glides the cake through the narrow doorway!
Berry: Smooth sailing!
You move slowly out to the parking lot, where Mia’s car is waiting with the door open!
Alexandra: Not too far now...
You make your way towards the vehicle... when suddenly, your foot splashes in a puddle!
Danny: Whoa!
You regain your balance!
Berry: That was close!
Payton: A little too close for comfort!
Mia: We’re almost there! Come on!
In perfect sync, your group moves the gargantuan cake through the car door with only inches to spare!
Alexandra: We did it!
Berry: Yes!
Payton: OMG, my heart is in my throat! I though for sure we’d drop it!
Danny: Good work, everyone!
You finally leave the bakery and make your way back to Autumn’s house.
Autumn: Well, that’s two errands crossed off the list... But there’s a lot more still to do.
Danny: It’s okay. We’ll get it done! Autumn, why don’t you handle your dad’s tux? And Payton, can you oversee the caterers for the reception?
Payton: Squee! I get to arrange all the cute little appetizers?
Autumn runs off to get the tux, and Payton dashes toward the milling caterers.
Danny: Mia, I guess that leaves us to tackle the backyard.
Requirements
You and Mia go through a gate and into the backyard, where the chairs are still stacked.
Danny: I guess we should start by setting up the chairs.
Mia: Manual labor?! In these heels?!
Danny: ...uh!
Mia: I guess it’s for Autumn... let me get these heels off.
Mia grabs some chairs and starts setting them up to face the wedding arch. You work the opposite side, making sure to leave enough room for the aisle.
Time - 7 hours
As you continue to set up chairs, Mia turns to face you, a little sad.
Mia: You know, I’m actually worried about Autumn... Max isn’t always the greatest brother, but he was there for me when our mom got remarried. Autumn has to go through this all alone.
You put down the last chair, neatly finishing up the seating arrangement.
Danny: Is she alone, Mia... or does she have US?
Mia: I... I guess I didn’t think about it like that.
As you finish setting up the chairs, Autumn runs back over and throws her arms around you and Mia!
Autumn: Guys, it worked! It worked! I just handed the tux to my dad. He said everything’s ready for the wedding ahead of schedule, better than he could’ve hoped! My dad says he’s got time to talk with me!
Danny: Autumn, that’s great news!
Mia: Okay, so why are you rumpling our outfits with hugs? Go talk already!
Requirements
Autumn runs over to her father, who is now dressed sharply in a black tux. They speak for a moment, and then step inside the house together. Through the window, you see them sit down on the couch in the living room.
Danny: I really hope the talk goes okay.
Mia: It will... and if it doesn’t, it’s like you said... She has US.
Time - 5 hours
Autumn steps back outside to where you, Mia, and Payton are standing.
Autumn: Guys, I just finished talking with my dad...
Mia: Did it go okay? When I talked with my mom about her getting remarried, she kept promising nothing would change... SOOOOO not true! It’s like parents just DECIDE sometimes, like our opinions don’t even matter... even when what they do affects us too!
Autumn: Yeah, that’s pretty much what I told my dad. I told him I was upset at how fast everything happened, and he apologized. But I also know he’s been lonely and sad since my mom passed... And so I told him that if Charlotte can help make him happy again, then I can’t stand in the way.
Payton: Aww, that was really well said, Autumn.
Autumn: I hope so... It turns out my dad wants me to speak at the reception after the wedding ceremony!
The string quartet strikes up the first few bars of the Prelude.
Autumn: And speaking of the ceremony... it’s about to start! You should take your seats. I’ll meet up with you again after the service.
Requirements
You slide into the lawn chair next to Berry.
Berry: Me and you at a wedding together. I guess that means we’re getting pretty serious!
Danny: ...really?
Berry: It’s like a rule. If you go to a wedding with someone, that means you’re practically pre- pre-engaged.
Danny: But I haven’t even pre-pre-said ‘yes’ yet!
The strong quartet begins playing the Processional. Autumn walks down the aisle with her father. Moments later, Charlotte is escorted to the altar by her brother. Charlotte carries a bouquet of beautiful white peonies!
Payton: Look at Autumn’s new stepmom. Her dress looks SOOO pretty with those flowers!
Mia: ...and are her shoes by Manolo Blahnik?
Danny: ...is that good?
Mia: If I’M jealous, then VERY good!
The officiant raises her hands, and the ceremony begins!
Time - 6 hours
As the ceremony concludes, the officiant declares the couple ‘man and wife’, and they kiss! The guests cheer!
Payton: It’s... sniff... it’s all so beautiful! I can’t stop crying!
At the reception, the wedding cake is served to the guests.
Berry: OMG... this cake... so good!
Danny: Hey, save some for me!
Autumn’s father waves to her and motions for her to take the stage. Autumn steps up to the podium to speak.
Autumn: Ahem. So my dad asked me to say a few words. Here goes... When my mother passed, I wondered if I’d ever feel happy again. I thought nothing could ever replace her. I was right about that. Nothing CAN replace my mother. But I was wrong about the other part. I was happy again. I AM happy... And my wonderful, lifelong friends have been a big part of that.
Payton: Awww...
Autumn: Now my dad has made a wonderful, lifelong friend too... His new wife, my new stepmom, Charlotte. As I said, I’m happy... and now I’m sure that he’ll be happy too.
Autumn, her father, and Charlotte share a happy three-way hug! The whole crowd ‘awws’...
Autumn: And now I’m supposed to announce... the tossing of the bouquet!
Requirements
Charlotte steps in front of the gathered crowd, and then turns around. She teases tossing the bouquet.
Alexandra: Ooh! Ooh! Throw it to me!
Berry: No... to me!
James: Sorry, everyone... but that bouquet has MY name on it!
Charlotte launches the bouquet into the air...
Time - 7 hours
The bouquet sails high up and then arcs back down! Alexandra vaults upward and grabs it!
Alexandra: It was me... I caught it! I can’t believe I actually caught the bouquet!
Berry: Whew... you know what, turns out that’s actually kind of a relief.
Alexandra: ...didn’t you want to catch the bouquet?
Berry: Sure, but you know what’s supposed to happen afterwards, right?
James: Whoever catches the bouquet is totally supposed to get married next!
Alexandra: But that’s not for real, right? That’s just something that people say!
Berry: ...is it?
Alexandra: Eep!
After the bouquet toss, everyone hangs around dancing and laughing until late into the night.
Mia: That was such a beautiful wedding!
Payton: I know! This is what I want my wedding to be like! But with even MORE pretty cakes!
Danny: ...uh, how MANY cakes?
Payton: Well, I’ll need a bride cake, a groom cake, a pet cake... And a gluten-free, vegan cake with no nuts because my future in-laws probably have food allergies! Not that I’ve given this much thought...
Autumn: Well, I think that sounds amazing! In fact, everything about today has been amazing! And I owe it all to you... three of my very best friends in all the world!
Requirements
The next day at school, Autumn finds you chatting with Mia and Payton.
Autumn: Hey, guys... I just wanted to thank you all again for supporting me at the wedding.
Mia: Yeah, yeah, we get it. We’re perfect. We know.
Payton: Autumn, what’s that pretty box you’re holding?
Autumn: Actually, it’s a present for Mia. She found me the bridesmaids dress that I wore at the wedding... And I still feel bad for causing her to miss out on the purse she wanted.
Autumn hands the box to Mia.
Autumn: I hope that this present can make up for it.
Mia opens the box... and her eyes go wide!
Mia: Oh. My. Gosh...
Time - 9 hours
Mia opens the box to reveal a gorgeous designer purse!
Payton: Mia, is that the Kate Collins purse you wanted?
Mia: No... this is a VINTAGE Kate Collins design! It’s been discontinued for years! This is even rarer than the one I wanted!
Autumn: So... you like it?
Mia: Are you kidding? It’s amazing! How did you even get it?
Autumn: I asked Charlotte to help me. She has some friends at Kate Collins, and they were able to pull some strings.
Mia: It’s way too much! I can’t accept this... can I?
Autumn: You have to! My stepmom got it just for you!
Danny: Sounds like you and your stepmom are getting along.
Autumn: I think so. We’re pretty different... but sometimes differences are good!
Autumn: Mia, I also wanted to apologize... You were right about me being needy. It’s okay that we have different interests. You like shopping, and I don’t. It doesn’t matter if we don’t always go to the mall together... What matters is that we’re there for each other when it counts. That’s what it means to be friends.
Mia: And you know what else friends do? They forgive each other.
Autumn: Thanks, Mia. You’re the best...
Autumn pulls Mia, Payton, and you into a tight group hug.
Autumn: You’re all the best.
