You and your friends are relaxing in the quad under the shade of a few trees.
Danny: Payton, how’s My School Story going?
Payton: Great! We’re getting new blog posts every day!
Nishan: I just uploaded a listicle about the best zombie video game characters! It already has six comments and--
Suddenly, you see an angry Sakura stomping toward your group!
Nishan: Uh... I gotta go!
Nishan rushes off in the opposite direction.
Autumn: I guess Nishan’s still avoiding her after he forgot to write that review for their video game blog...
Just as Nishan disappears around a corner, Sakura reaches you.
Sakura: My parents are being SO unreasonable! They STILL won’t let me use the internet!
Ezra: What? When did this happen?
Wes: Why’d they take your internet away?
Sakura: They think I don’t have any social skills, and they’re worried about my IRL friends, or lack thereof.
Payton: But what about Nishan? You guys are super close! Hasn’t he met your parents?
Sakura: Well... actually no, he’s never met them. And NOW they’re convinced I made him up or something.
Julian: What?!
Sakura: And they’ll ONLY let me use the internet again if I prove my social skills... By throwing a party!
Time - 9 hours
Payton: Your parents want you to throw a party?! YAY!
Sakura: No! Not yay! This is the worst!
Payton: But I can help! And then it won’t be the worst!
Sakura: Thanks, but no thanks. If I can plan a fifty-man raid on Magdor’s Palace, then I think I can plan a simple party.
Payton: If you say so! But once you figure out the deets, we should post them on My School Story! Your parents will have to let you use the internet again if you throw a party for the whole school! That takes some serious social skills!
Sakura: If you say so. The party’s at my house on Friday.
Sakura: So... you’ll all be there, right?
Julian: Oh, uh, well...
Danny: You aren’t going, Julian?
Julian: There’s a big field hockey game against Athena on Friday. I’m supposed to cover it for the sports column!
Autumn: And I agreed to take pictures.
Sakura: Oh, okay. I understand.
Autumn: But if the game finishes early, maybe we’ll stop by after, okay?
Payton: What about you, Wes? You’ll be there, right?
Wes: Oh, um... I have to wash my hair then...
Ezra: Yeah... me too!
Wes: But we’ll see you guys later!
Wes and Ezra leave before anyone can say anything.
Julian: What’s going on with them?
Autumn: They’ve been acting strange for a while now...
Sakura: Is ANYONE coming to my party?
Payton: I’ll be there!
Danny: Me too! Wouldn’t miss it!
Requirements
You and Payton arrive at Sakura’s house a few hours before the party to help set up.
Payton: Sakura, are you ready to paaaaaar-tay?!
Sakura: I guess so...
Danny: What’s wrong?
Sakura: My parents are usually pretty laid back, but this party is really important to them for some reason, so they planned the whole menu and they’re gonna help serve food all night...
Danny: What kind of food?
Sakura: We have muesli bread, quinoa-stuffed peppers, kale chips, and a few other snacks. All organic, of course.
Payton: Those sound... interesting... I’m not sure if they’re the best party foods, though.
Danny: They look like they could be good...
Sakura: Try some, Danny!
You pick up a slice of muesli bread and take a small bite...
Sakura: So, Danny... what do you think of the snacks?
Danny: Oh! Uh, the snacks are...
Time - 16 hours
Sakura: So, Danny... what do you think of the snacks?
Danny: Delicious!
You take another bite of muesli bread!
Danny: Wow Sakura! This is amazing! Payton, you should try some!
Payton: Umm... no thanks.
Sakura: I knew you’d like the muesli bread, Danny!
Payton: But we should account for all tastes to make sure everyone has a great time!
Sakura: I guess that makes sense. But my parents already put so much work into this food... and the party will start soon! How’re we gonna get everything done in time?
Payton: Never fear! The party planning queen is here! I know just the place to get snacks!
You, Payton, and Sakura arrive at Marky Mart.
Sakura: Why’d you even hype this up, Payton? We’re just at the grocery store. Anyone would know to get snacks here!
Payton: But this place has the BEST party snacks! Let’s shop!
Requirements
You, Payton, and Sakura wander up and down the aisles of Marky Mart. Payton adds piles of snack food to the cart.
Payton: Fruit punch and cupcakes and gummy bears, OH MY!
Sakura: I’m not sure about all this junk food, Payton...
Payton: Oh look! These tiny pizza rolls are SO yummy! And cute! You have to get them, Sakura!
Sakura: I don’t know... frozen foods usually have a lot of preservatives... What about these wasabi seaweed swirls?
Payton: Eww!
Sakura: Well, I think your mini pizza rolls are gross!
Payton: Hey! I’m just trying to help you throw a great party!
Sakura: Fine! Danny, what do you think we should get?
Danny: Something else! What if we get multigrain tortilla chips and organic salsa?
Payton: Chips and salsa... a party classic!
Sakura: Those sound perfect!
You, Payton, and Sakura return to Sakura’s house with bags full of party food!
Payton: Come on, guys! We don’t have a lot of time before the first guests show up!
Danny: Where should we put all this food?
Payton: Let’s set up another food table next to the first one!
The three of you quickly set everything up.
Payton: We’re almost ready! We just need one thing...
Sakura: What?
Payton: Guests!
The first party guests arrive, and within a half hour the party’s in full-swing!
Payton: Danny, this is one of my best parties ever!
Danny: It’s Sakura’s party, Payton.
Payton: But I taught her everything she knows! So it’s basically the same thing!
Danny: Speaking of which, where did Sakura go?
Payton: She’s over by the food tables talking to her parents... Danny! I just had the best idea! We should send some friends over there to talk about how great she is! Her parents will HAVE to let her use the internet again when they see how many friends she has!
Danny: I don’t know about that... but it’s worth a shot! I know just who to send!
Requirements
Payton: Ralph! Joshua! Kai! Just the people we’re looking for!
Ralph: Y’all are looking for us? What for?
Danny: We want to show Sakura’s parents how awesome we think she is and we need your help!
Payton: We’ll all go over there and talk to her... show her parents that we’re all good friends!
Joshua: It’s been a while since I hung out with Sakura, but I’m game.
Ralph: I reckon I don’t know Sakura too well, but she seems awful nice!
Kai: I’m down to jam with anyone!
Payton: Then it’s settled! Let’s go!
Time - 12 hours
You, Payton, Ralph, Joshua, and Kai approach Sakura near the food tables.
Payton: Sakura! How’s everything going?
Sakura: It seems to be going well, so far! Thanks for all your help earlier!
Payton: What are friends for? Speaking of friends, look who showed up! Your old pal Ralph!
Ralph: Howdy.
Sakura: Oh, uh, howdy?
Ralph: This is a mighty fine party you’ve thrown together here. Reminds me of the hoedowns we used to have back home.
Sakura: I’ve never been to a hoedown... but thanks, I guess...
Kai: Yeah, welcome to the partying world Sakura! A bunch of us are having a big bash next week. You should totally hit it up!
Sakura: Well... I’m kinda hoping to have the internet back by then, and I’ll have a lot of catching up to do in LoC...
Kai: What’s LoC?
Joshua: It stands for Legends of Clancraft. It’s pretty lame. I’m more of a Warzone: Everywhere aficionado myself.
Sakura: LoC isn’t lame! It’s a game of skill and teamwork!
Joshua: Yeah, but it only has one map. Warzone just added another TEN.
Sakura: Ten more maps? I can’t believe I missed that...
Danny: Psst... Payton. I don’t think this conversation is going very well... Sakura’s parents don’t look very convinced by Ralph, Joshua, and Kai.
Payton: Just give it time, Danny. Sakura’ll come around.
After a few more minutes, the conversation fizzles out and everyone just awkwardly looks at each other.
Ralph: Well, I’m gonna go check out that punch.
Joshua: I’ll go with you.
Kai: The dance floor is calling my name! See you guys around!
Payton: Well, that didn’t go as planned...
Sakura: What do you mean?
Payton: We kinda hatched a plan for them to show your parents how awesome everyone thinks you are...
Sakura: What?!
Payton: We just wanted to help you!
Sakura: By making me look like a fool? Those three clearly know nothing about me! My parents are definitely not gonna think I have IRL social skills after THAT conversation!
Danny: We’re sorry, Sakura.
Sakura: After that tactical blunder, how am I ever supposed to convince my parents to let me use the internet again? Ugh, I gotta go, I don’t know, use the bathroom or something.
Sakura marches upstairs.
Danny: Sakura...
Requirements
You follow Sakura upstairs and find her sitting on the balcony, looking out over the trees.
Danny: We’re really sorry, Sakura. Payton and I didn’t mean to upset you. We just wanted to help you show your parents that you have lots of good friends.
Sakura: I know you meant well, Danny. It’s not that.
Danny: Why are you so upset?
Time - 14 hours
Sakura: I’m upset because... what if my parents are right?
Danny: What do you mean?
Sakura: Well, I obviously have terrible IRL social skills, and I can’t throw a halfway decent party without help. And most of my so-called friends aren’t even here! Maybe... maybe Mum and Dad were right to be worried about me.
Danny: Don’t say that, Sakura! This party is awesome! Everyone’s having a great time. And you know Payton’s always willing to help you throw another one, if you want. And Julian and Autumn definitely would’ve been here if they didn’t have their field hockey game to cover. We’re all here for you, even when we’re not, you know HERE for you.
Sakura: Yeah, everyone except my best friend...
Danny: Oh. Have you talked to Nishan recently?
Sakura: Not since the My School Story incident. It’s so stupid! We haven’t had a fight like this since he left Hearst...
Danny: I’m sure he’ll come around soon. You two are best friends! A little fight won’t change that.
Sakura: I hope not... I really thought he’d surprise me here tonight, though.
Danny: Don’t count him out just yet!
Sakura: Thanks for being such a good friend, Danny.
Danny: Anytime! Are you ready to rejoin the party downstairs?
Sakura: Sure, I guess I can do a replay.
You and Sakura are standing up to go back inside when you spot headlights coming your way.
Danny: I wonder who that could be...
Sakura: Is that... it looks like Nishan’s car!
Requirements
You and Sakura watch from the balcony as Nishan parks his car and turns off the engine.
Sakura: Why isn’t he getting out?
Danny: I don’t know... maybe he’s--
The driver side door of Nishan’s car pops open. Nishan steps out and walks up the path to Sakura’s front door.
Danny: Should we go down to meet him?
Sakura: Not yet...
Nishan raises his hand to ring the doorbell... then lets it fall down to his side!
Sakura: What’s he doing? Why isn’t he coming in?
Danny: I don’t know...
Nishan turns away and starts to walk back down the path!
Sakura: He’s... he’s leaving!
Time - 16 hours
At the end of the path, Nishan stops in his tracks. He spins around, marches up to the door, and rings the doorbell!
Sakura: Yes! Okay, NOW we can go back to the party!
Danny: Sounds good to me!
You and Sakura run downstairs to find Nishan in the entry to Sakura’s house.
Nishan: Sakura!
Sakura: Nishan! I’m so glad to-- Uh, I mean... Hello, Nishan.
Nishan: Hey, Sakura... I’m sorry that I--
Sakura: Oh, forget it.
Nishan: Forget what?
Sakura: I don’t know. I already forgot. Are we good?
Nishan: We’re good.
Sakura pulls Nishan into a tight hug!
Nishan: Whoa!
Danny: Aww!
Sakura: Ahem. That’s enough of that. Let’s get back to the party, shall we?
Nishan: Let’s.
Just then, the doorbell rings again! You pull the door open to find...
Autumn: Surprise!
Danny: Autumn! Julian! What are you two doing here?
Julian: The field hockey game ended early after all!
Danny: Oh yeah? How’d it go?
Julian: You’ll have to read my blog post to find out!
Autumn: But basically, Athena--
Nishan: Um, hello?! Spoiler alert!
Autumn: Sorry! By the way, did Wes and Ezra ever show up? Their excuse sounded... pretty far- fetched.
Danny: Yeah, I’m not sure what that was about...
Autumn: Well, I’m sure they’ll tell us eventually, or at least--
Before Autumn can finish her sentence, Payton rushes over!
Payton: Oh man, is that Autumn, Julian, and Nishan I see? The party has officially started!
Requirements
As the party continues late into the night, you and your friends talk, laugh, and enjoy snacks both healthy and unhealthy.
Payton: Okay... ONE kale chips, and that’s it! For the sake of the party!
Payton crunches into the kale chip!
Sakura: What do you think?
Payton: It tastes like what I imagine burnt bigs would taste like.
Julian: Oh well, more for the rest of us! Man, this muesli bread is the best thing since sliced bread!
Nishan: But that muesli break is sliced... I mean, it quite literally is sliced bread...
Julian: Nishan. Please. I’m trying to make a great joke here.
Just then, Sakura’s parents wave her over.
Sakura: Oh! My parents want to talk to me. I’ll be right back, guys.
You and your friends watch surreptitiously as Sakura talks to her parents. Soon, she rejoins your group as her parents ascend the stairs to the upper floor.
Sakura: So, I have some good news!
Payton: Your parents have promised to never buy kale chips again?
Sakura: No, and for your information, kale is an amazing source of protein and vitamin K, and you’d do well to--
Danny: Uh, Sakura? What’s the good news?
Sakura: Oh! Well, basically, my parents are finally willing to admit that Nishan is real...
Nishan: What?! Why was this in doubt?
Payton: Woo! Three cheers for Nishan being real! Hip hip--
Julian: Wait, that’s not fair! No one else gets cheers for being real!
Sakura: Anyway, if I could finish what I was saying... they saw how well I got along with all of you guys. They noticed Danny and Payton making such a huge, if somewhat misguided, effort to convince them I had social skills... And they were definitely happy to see me hanging out with you guys and actually being part of a group instead of a clan for once.
Danny: So does this mean they’ll let you have internet again?
Sakura nods, beaming.
Autumn: You won’t stop spending time with us though, right?
Payton: Yeah, this was one of the best parties all year!
Sakura: Eh, I’ll try to make some time for you guys... we can chat online while I wait to respawn in LoC.
Payton: Aw, what?!
Sakura: Just kidding. The first thing I’m going to do online is write a blog post.
Nishan: Oh right, the new Howlin’ Rick Hargrave game was just announced! Man, it looks so--
Sakura: Not a post for our video game blog, Nishan. I want to write a post for our school blog about everything that happened tonight. You know, throwing my first party, and... ‘friendship’ or whatever.
Payton: Awww! Thanks, Sakura!
Danny: I’m looking forward to reading your first post that isn’t about video games!
Sakura: You’ll be the first to know once it goes up, Danny!
Looks like Sakura’s party was a pretty good time after all! Even Julian and Autumn made it! But where have Wes and Ezra been this whole time? And what’s with all the suspicious behavior and excuses? Find out in the next quest in the My School Story saga - Shady Business!
