Madison: Danny! Got a second to talk?
Danny: Sure, Madison, what’s going on?
Madison: An art gallery in town is organizing a contest... and the artist with the best collection will get to have their work shown in a museum in New York!
Danny: Cool! Are you entering the contest?
Madison: I’d love to, I long to, but I’m not sure I can...
Danny: Why not?
Madison: I want to put together a collection that uses the mediums of painting, sculpture, and photography! But working on such an epic project will require a ton of highly specialized equipment and a little more training.
Requirements
Madison: Thank you, Danny! Theses supplies are perfect! Sable brushes, primer, oil paints, and books full of tasteful nudes!
Danny: Uh... for artistic reference, right?
Madison: Of course... I finally have everything I need to prepare my masterpiece!
Danny: Awesome! I can’t wait to see your collection when it’s finished!
Madison: Unfortunately, that may be a while... I’m feeling completely uninspired at the moment. I know that I want the first piece of my collection to be a painting that portrays blossoming love, but I can’t think of a unique way to depict that...
Danny: Maybe you need a real-world example to work from.
Requirements
Madison: Oh, sweet love! After I went on the date, I raced back and began painting immediately. I didn’t stop until, well... see for yourself!
Danny: This painting is beautiful! I love how you used the deep red roses to contrast the white of Cupid’s diaper!
Madison: And did you notice how the clouds are shaped like hearts? The ‘Mirth of Venus’ is some of my finest work!
Danny: Your collection is off to an impressive start!
Madison: But just a start. My project is still only a third complete...
Danny: What are you going to create next?
Madison: I want the second piece to be a sculpture that represents frivolity and decadence, but I’m just not feeling those emotions right now...
Danny: Going on a date helped inspire you last time. Why not go do something fun?
Requirements
Madison: Danny, you’re a genius! I’ve never felt so inspired in all my life!
Danny: So you had a good time at the party?
Madison: Good? That doesn’t begin to describe the thrill! There I was on the dance floor when inspiration dropped like the bass. That’s when I realized, nothing says fun like--
Danny: ...dancing? ...dubstep?
Madison: CARNIVALS! Look at the next piece in my collection. I’ve used swirling spires of clay to render the Ferris wheel and merry-go-round in a bold, Impressionistic style! I call it ‘The Cotton Candy Eaters’...
Danny: Madison, you have only one piece in your collection left to create. What’s it going to be?
Madison: Uh... well... er....
Danny: ...need more inspiration?
Madison: Yes, sadly I do. For what is love and frivolity without the other side of the coin? Darkness. Despair. Accordion music.
Requirements
Madison: Oh, every part of me aches at such emotional apocalypse...
Danny: Yeah, but sometimes couples need to break up...
Madison: And sometimes lightning must fell the tree, and sometimes the wolf must feed upon the flesh of the deer!
Danny: That’s pretty dark...
Madison: I call this photograph, ‘The Blue Moon Gnaws at the Scorpion’. It truly captures the depths of sorrow!
Danny: I have to say, Madison, this collection really is amazing! When will you enter it in the art contest?
Madison: ...contest? I was so overwrought with the feels that I completely forgot about entering! We need to get to the gallery! Now!
Requirements
Danny: That’s a relief! We made it to the art gallery in the nick of time! Were you able to enter your collection in the contest?
Madison: Yes... not that it will make a difference...
Danny: What’s the matter, Madison? There’s a lot of impressive art here, but I think your collection has a shot at winning!
Madison: Actually, the judges are divided. They like my work, but they want to know what it means on a deeper level, and I just can’t come up with the right words to express the theme... Maybe if you could say something insightful!
As the judges approach, you start talking loudly...
Danny: Okay! Um, it’s obvious that the theme of this collection is love is bitterly uncertain!
Madison: Yes, of course! That’s exactly what I intended when I created this collection... We desire love and fear it with the same breath, for passion and pain are hopelessly entwined!
The judges walk away, talking amongst themselves...
Danny: Do yo think they liked what they heard?
Madison: We’ll just have to wait and see...
Time - 6 hours
Madison: Great news, Danny! The judges liked my artwork, and they loved your explanation of the theme! It turns out one of the judges is just getting over a bad breakup. She understands how hard it is to start dating again!
Danny: That’s awesome! So did you win?
Madison: Win? Lose? Does it really matter? Is not the pursuit of art its own reward?
Danny: Yeah, but you seemed really excited about the prize...
Madison: Just kidding! I totally won! My work is going to be shown at a museum in New York!
Danny: Congratulations, Madison!
Madison: Thanks, Danny. I never could’ve done it without your help.
Danny: Any time!
