Kimi: Danny! Autumn! Payton! I’ve been looking everywhere for you!
Danny: Hey there, Kimi! Is everything okay?
Kimi: Are you kidding I’m great! It’s almost time for my sixteenth birthday! And it’s going to be a very posh affair! I was hoping you guys could make it. I found an awesome local band to play music, and I custom-ordered a fancy, gourmet cake from my favorite shop! There’ll probably be makeovers! It’s going to be amazing! AND on top of that, I think I’m going to get a car! My parents have been dropping hints all week about getting me my very own set of wheels! Please, please, please say you’ll come! You can finally meet all of my friends from Twin Branches too!
Payton: I never turn down a party invitation!
Danny: It sounds like fun!
Autumn: Of course we’ll come!
A few minutes later, after Kimi has left...
Payton: I’m so excited! I love parties... and I LOVE shopping for birthday presents!
Danny: We should get Kimi something special!
Payton: To the mall!
Requirements
At the mall, everyone picks out gifts for Kimi.
Autumn: Okay. If there’s one thing Kimi loves, it’s makeup. Let’s all pick something we think she’d like!
Payton: This dark lip gloss is perfect! It’ll really complement her skin tone!
Autumn: And look what I picked out! It’s an entire eye shadow palette!
Payton: Given how often Kimi changes her look, that’ll be perfect. What are you going to get her, Danny?
Danny: Well, we’ve got lip gloss and eye shadow... maybe I’ll pick out some nail polish!
You look over to the various nail polish colors...
Danny: They all have such cool names! I think I’m going to go with Slumber Party Slipper!
Payton: Great choice! It’s a subtle, rosy color! Plus, I love slumber parties! And slippers!
Danny: Okay... we’ve got our gifts...
Autumn: Kimi is going to love these!
Payton: Now let’s head to the party!
Requirements
You arrive at Kimi’s house, where she greets you at the door!
Kimi: I’m SO happy to see you guys! Come on in!
Danny: We brought you gifts!
You hand her a shiny bag with a big, red bow! Kimi opens it up.
Kimi: Aw, thanks guys! This makeup is really pretty!
Autumn: Glad you like it!
Payton: Maybe we can use it when we do the makeovers with everyone else!
Kimi: Uh, about that... look, my mom’s changed up some of the plans I’ve made, so this birthday might be a LITTLE different than what you were expecting... well, just come on in and see for yourselves.
Kimi leads you all down a hallway...
Danny: Wait a second... am I hearing... circus music?
Time - 4 hours
Kimi leads you into the living room. Her parents have decorated it with rainbows, white and pink streamers, and bright balloons with cartoon ponies on them. Cheerful circus music plays in the background.
Payton: This would be a great party... for a ten-year old.
Kimi: Yeah, well... they wanted to tone it down a bit for my little sister, who they adore. But this might be too much. It’s turned out more like a little kids’ carnival, hasn’t it?
Danny: Hey, it’s okay. At least it’s festive. We’ll still have lots of fun!
You look around, expecting to see Kimi’s friends from Twin Branches, but the only one there is Owen!
Owen: Uh, hi guys. Welcome to the party.
Danny: Where is everyone else?
Kimi: You see, Danny, something happened at school, and... oh, hold on a sec, Emily is calling me... be right back!
Danny: Owen, what’s going on?
Owen: Our high school had a LITTLE food poisoning incident at the cafeteria yesterday... Luckily, I brought my own lunch, and Kimi’s mom took her out for a pre-birthday celebration... but everyone else is pretty sick.
Nearby, Kimi is talking on the phone...
Kimi: No... it’s okay, Emily. I understand. I just hope you feel better soon...
Danny: I feel bad for Kimi! Hopefully we can still have a good time, even though only a few of us came!
Owen: Yeah, that’d be nice. I can tell Kimi’s disappointed, even though she’s trying not to be. She wanted her birthday to be like the ones you see on ‘My Super Sweet Sixteen’ with famous rappers and choreographed dancers, and everything... She put a lot of work into planning everything. I just don’t think she expected her mom to change up all her plans.
Kimi hands up with Emily and looks down at the floor sadly.
Kimi: Oh no... this is bad. It’s happening all over again...
Danny: What’s happening all over again?
Kimi: Nothing! It’s... it’s nothing. Let’s just get this party rolling, okay? My mom says the performer’s arrived.
Payton: Nice! I can’t wait to hear what they’re playing... AHHH! Clown! There’s a clown!
Starlight the Clown enters the living room with maniacal eyes and a wide smile. You and your friends back away, whispering to each other.
Danny: Clowns are fun... right?
Payton: Is anyone else scared of clowns?
Autumn: Yes.
Kimi: Definitely.
Owen: Really? What’s so bad about them? I like clowns. What about you, Danny?
Danny: I’m going to hide in that corner now.
Payton: I know how you feel, Danny. You can come sit with me.
Kimi: ...
The five of you huddle together on the couch while the clown commences his magic show. First, the clown pulls scarves out of his sleeves...
Owen: This is awesome!
Payton: But where are they coming from?!
Kimi: If he’s hiding ribbons in there, then he’s got to be hiding something else... like a knife or an axe or a rabid pigeon!
A little later, the clown starts juggling batons, balls, and balloons!
Owen: Nice work, clown!
Danny: This is strangely riveting.
At the end, when Starlight the Clown asks for a volunteer, only Kimi’s little sister is brave enough to go up onstage.
Payton: Nope, I’m staying right where I am. Who knows what that thing’s going to do to me?
Owen: I might be wrong, but isn’t the clown just painting a cat nose and whiskers on Kimi’s sister’s face?
Payton: That’s what he wants you to think.
Kimi: Well, the clown left. I’m sorry about that, guys. I didn’t know that’s who my mom invited...
Owen: Hey, it’s fine. I had a blast. And so did your little sister by the end.
Payton: Besides, we made it! He’s gone now, and your mom just mentioned that she’s going to get the cake!
Autumn: This is great! Come on, Kimi! You can blow out the candles and make a wish!
Requirements
You gather around the table as Kimi’s mom gets the cake out of the refrigerator.
Payton: I’m so excited! Eating cake is one of my top five birthday party events!
Autumn: What kind of cake is it, Kimi?
Kimi: I requested a sophisticated tiramisu with extra ladyfingers! I hope my mom was able to get it!
Everyone watches excitedly as Kimi’s mom sets a bright pink box to the table...
Time - 6 hours
Kimi’s mom opens the box to reveal a cake in the shape of a unicorn!
Kimi: Oh... uh, great. Thanks so much, Mom.
Kimi’s mom lights the candles on the cake, which Kimi promptly blows out.
Autumn: What did you wish for, Kimi?
Kimi: Well... it is my Sweet Sixteen party. I guess I’m kind of hoping for a very specific gift... Like... the kind of gift that has four wheels with chrome rims, plush leather seats, and a convertible top!
Kimi’s mom ushers them outside... Where a bright pink bicycle with tacked-on stickers is waiting!
Kimi: This is... uh, unexpected. But really nice, I guess. Thanks, Mom. Can you, uh, just excuse me for a second?
Kimi runs back inside the house. You can see she’s tearing up!
Danny: ...
You and your friends find Kimi on the living room couch, sniffling.
Danny: Hey, Kimi? You okay?
Kimi: ...no. I’m not okay! I’m SO embarrassed! This party was awful! I promised you all a really fun party, and instead, I trapped you in this really weird, clown-infested, kid’s birthday! I’m REALLY sorry, you guys! I didn’t think it would be like this.
Danny: You don’t have to feel bad, Kimi. The whole point was to be here with you, celebrating your birthday. And it was fun.
Kimi: Even with the clown?
Danny: Especially with the clown.
Kimi: Thanks, Danny, but even if you guys weren’t totally bored, it was still a pretty sad party...
Owen: ...IF it were over! Which it isn’t! Come on! We’re taking this party on the road!
Kimi: Huh?
Danny: That’s a great idea! It’s your Sweet Sixteen party! Let’s go out and have an adventure!
Payton: Yeah! And we’ll start with getting you a new outfit to celebrate the new sixteen-year-old you!
Danny: I’ve got a friend that works at this thrift shop...
Payton: A thrift store? Not the mall?
Danny: Hey, it’s a really trendy thrift store with some vintage items I think Kimi will like...
Kimi: I’m down!
Danny: Great! I’ll let her know we’re coming!
Requirements
Danny, Payton, and your friends walk into the local thrift store. Kate greets you from behind the counter.
Payton: Kate! How’s it going?
Kate: I’ve been working the counter at a thrift store for two hours. If that tells you anything. But I’m real glad to see you! What are you doing here?
Payton: My friend is celebrating her Sweet Sixteen, and I want to get her the most fashionable outfit in this store!
Kimi: Aww, Payton!
Danny: Think you can help us work up a little magic for her?
Kate: OH YEAH! Let’s hit the racks!
You, Kate, and Payton help Kimi scour the clothing racks at the thrift store for the perfect outfit!
Kate: What do you think of stripes?
Kimi: Vertical, yes. Diagonal, phenomenal. Horizontal, forget it.
Kate: My thoughts exactly! Okay, I got the perfect skirt! Jersey-knit, diagonal, black stripes.
Payton: And I found this vintage lace blouse with frilly sleeves...
Danny: Here’s a thin red belt that would go...
Autumn: And what about these bright blue platform shoes?
You shove all the items into Kimi’s hands, and she runs into the dressing room. A few minutes later, she steps out, wearing the complete outfit! Kimi steps in front of the mirror.
Kimi: Oh! I look...
Payton: Gorgeous!
Autumn: Very chic!
Danny: All of the above!
Kate: I don’t know. I think you’re still missing something.
Kimi: Hmmm... I know what you mean. Give me a second... I think I know exactly what I need...
Time - 8 hours
After a long time scouring the racks, Kimi at last gets to the bottom of a pile of purses and latches onto a gold sequined clutch!
Kate: Is that what I think it is?!
Kimi: If you think it’s a one-of-a-kind, couture handbag, you’d be right! And it’s only five dollars!
Kate: I’ve been working here for a couple months, and I haven’t seen a better deal. You HAVE to get it!
Payton: That, and everything else you tried on!
Kate: I’ll ring everything up right now!
Danny: And we’ll take care of it. Happy birthday, Kimi!
Kimi: Oh, wow! Thanks, you guys!
Kimi excitedly hugs everyone in the group.
Outside, you put Kimi’s clothes into the trunk of the car and pile in.
Danny: So, what’s next, birthday girl? What else can we do for you?
Kimi: You know... I told my mom I wanted a makeover, but what I REALLY wanted was a tattoo. Instead, they gave me a clown who does kid’s face-painting.
Danny: You want a tattoo? Don’t you already have a few?
Kimi: Oh, these are just press on. I want a real tattoo.
Payton: Wow, that’s gutsy... I can’t even decide what I want to wear in the morning, much less what tattoo I’d get.
Autumn: I don’t think I’d mind one, but I don’t know what I’d even get.
Kimi: Probably something really artsy, I bet. A tattoo that looks like a watercolor painting!
Autumn: Ha ha, maybe! But for now, I’m pretty sure my dad would freak out if I got a tattoo.
Kimi: Yeah, my parents would go nuts.
Autumn: But hey, you could always do a henna tattoo!
Kimi: What’s that?
Payton: Oh yeah, I’ve seen henna artists on the street downtown sometimes. Henna tattoos are only temporary, and they’re pretty cool!
Autumn: I used to paint them on myself from time to time. I got pretty good...
Kimi: Can you paint one on me?
Autumn: Yeah! We just need to stop by an art store...
Requirements
A short time later, you and your friends settle in the park. Autumn lays out the henna dye and brushes she’ll need.
Autumn: I’ll be ready to start ‘tattooing’ you in a second! What do you want on you?
Kimi: Ooh! Okay! This is going to be kind of hard... what do you guys think I should get?
Danny: You don’t have something in mind yet? I thought you were all ready to get a tattoo!
Kimi: Well, if it were a real tattoo, I’d go in with something I’ve spent hours and hours obsessing over. But henna’s temporary, so I could do anything!
Payton: We’ll help you figure something out... Group think!
Time - 10 hours
Kimi: All right, what ideas did you guys come up with? All I thought of were flowers. But that’s pretty common, right?
Danny: They’re common for a reason. They’re classic.
Payton: What about animals? You could do birds or fish or whatever!
Owen: If you wanted to go dark, you could do a skill or something!
Kimi: Maybe a little too edgy, but good...
Autumn: I can do all of those!
Kimi: What do you think, Danny? You give good advice. What should I get?
Danny: Birds!
Kimi: Yes! Bird feathers are pretty trendy! Let’s do birds!
An hour later, the swirling feathers and delicate wings of a beautiful peacock, majestically fan out across Kimi’s wrist.
Kimi: I LOVE it! It’s so animated! It looks like it’s going to fly away!
Danny: Really good job, Autumn!
Autumn: Thanks!
With her newly minted henna tattoo, Kimi stands up.
Kimi: What next? Is there a good way to make cookies fancy?
Payton: Oh yeah! And I know just the place!
Danny: To dessert!
Owen: TO DESSERT!
Requirements
Payton leads your group to a cafe called La Belle Tarte, where rows of golden pastries, fruit-filled tarts, and other, wonderful treats sit in a pretty window box.
Owen: This is a food place?
Payton: Now, Kimi, you sit down at that booth over there. We’ll surprise you with something!
Danny: No peeking!
Autumn: This is going to be amazing!
Time - 12 hours
You, Payton, Owen, and Autumn walk over to Kimi, holding a tall, bulky object with a napkin over it.
Kimi: What is that?
Payton: I said we’d surprise you! Now be surprised! Voila!
Payton whisks the napkin off, revealing a gold plate stacked high with multi-colored macaroons in the loose shape of a cake!
Kimi: Oh wow!
Payton: The ones in the middle are tiramisu-flavored, just like you wanted for your cake!
Kimi: Aww, you remembered!
Danny: You wanted cookies with class!
Autumn: And these have a certain je ne sais quoi about them!
Owen: A certain what?
Autumn: You know. They have an unspoken elegance about them.
Kimi: I don’t know about that... they’re definitely speaking to me.
Owen: Are they saying, ‘Eat me’?
Kimi: Ha ha, yeah, that’s exactly it! Dig in, everyone!
Everyone sits back in the booth, content from eating macaroons.
Danny: So what’d you think?
Kimi: They were perfect for a sophisticated girl such as myself. And way better than a unicorn cake. I love my parents, but really... I’m sixteen! Not six. I’m old enough to drive! You know?
Payton: Yeah, I’m sad you weren’t able to get that car you wanted...
Kimi: It’s okay. It was kind of a longshot anyway. And I can still drive my parents’ car...
Danny: Hey, you should get to drive your own car on your birthday. If you don’t mind ditching the ‘sophisticated birthday’ theme, I’ve got a good idea of where we should go next...
Kimi: You had me at ‘your own car’!
Danny: Let me get in contact with some of my friends...
Requirements
You, Kimi, and your friends arrive at Go-Kart Go-Park, near the boardwalk. Karts of all colors rev and spin on a curvy racetrack! You walk up to the counter where two gamers are talking.
Danny: Hey, James and Isabella!
James: Danny! Good to see you! Trying to satisfy your need for speed?
Danny: Not me, actually. It’s my friend here who needs a set of wheels. It’s her birthday.
Isabella: Ooh, any friend of Danny’s is a friend of ours! And we’ll give you guys a discount!
James: What can we set you up with?
Kimi: I want your fastest car please...
Isabella: Our fastest? I know the perfect car for you... we’ll take care of you!
Time - 11 hours
A short while later, all your friends are settled into cars on the race track. Kimi is the only one driving a hot, red sports kart.
Kimi: Okay, not a real car... but totally awesome! And I can speed!
Owen: Kimi, just so you know... even though it’s your birthday, I’m not gonna let you win...
Kimi: Like heck I won’t!
Payton: I’m taking you all down!
Danny: Payton, you are so not threatening!
James and Isabella go around and check everyone’s settings. Afterwards...
James: All right, racers... you got your gas pedal to go, your break pedal to stop, and two buttons on your dashboard, the purple one’s for Turbo, the yellow one’s for the radio.
Isabella: Good luck! May the course be with you!
They step away from the track. The stoplight at the starting line blinks green! Everyone zooms off!
Kimi: Woo hoo! Try to beat me now!
Two laps later, Kimi is in first place, and you’re neck-and-neck with Payton in second!
Payton: Who’s threatening who now?!
On the final straightaway towards the finish line, you hit the purple button! Your car accelerates forward, and you zip past Payton!
Payton: What?! No!!!
Danny: See you later, Payton!
You cross the finish line right after Kimi! When everyone’s gotten out of your car, you nudge Payton.
Danny: You can congratulate me. I know you want to!
Payton: No way!
Danny: Come on...
Payton: Okay, fine... congrats... but Kimi still beat you, so there!
Kimi: I won! I won! Who rocks the kart course! It’s me! It’s me!
You walk out of Go-Kart Go-Park and end up on the boardwalk. Kimi looks out over the ocean as the suns sets.
Owen: Hey, Kimi... is there anything else you want to do for your make-up birthday?
Kimi: Yeah, one last thing... let’s sit on the beach.
Autumn: I’ll lead the way!
Danny: Me too!
Requirements
You and Autumn lead the group down some wooden stairs and onto the beach. The group forms a circle slightly away from the water. Kimi kicks off her shoes and buries her feet into the sand.
Kimi: Ooh, squishy!
Autumn: I love the feel of sand between my toes...
Your friends lay back on the same, relaxed.
Kimi: You know, today ended up being really nice. I feel bad about getting upset earlier...
Danny: Well, it makes sense. It’s your birthday, and you were expecting something different... I’d be a little sad if my birthday didn’t turn out the way I wanted.
Payton: Oh yeah! I’ve had plenty of bad birthdays. There was one where I got into a fight with my boyfriend! Then another one where I got into a fight... with... another... boyfriend... I might have a problem...
Autumn: And I’ve definitely had a birthday where I’d made plans with my dad, and he cancelled on me at the last moment. I ate frozen birthday cake.
Owen: Ouch.
Kimi: Well, to be perfectly honest, it wasn’t just about this specific birthday that I was so upset earlier...
Danny: What do you mean?
Kimi: Well, it’s kind of a long story...
Payton: It’s your birthday... lay it on us...
Kimi: Okay...
Time - 13 hours
Kimi heaves out a long sigh.
Kimi: I’ve always had a hard time making friends. I wasn’t exactly what people thought of as cool or popular or anything like that. Even up until that YouTube video of me came out, I only had Emily as my friend, and she was always busy with her successful swimming career. I was just that girl who hung out with her. Anyway, birthdays are kind of a touchy subject for me. In seventh grade, I got this bright idea to have a huge birthday party where I invited everyone at the school to come... Needless to say, it was a complete and utter disaster. No one came! It was just me with this gigantic, three-tiered birthday cake and an empty house. So when all my Twin Branches friends couldn’t make it to this birthday party...
Autumn: It kind of brought up those old memories?
Kimi: Yeah... I know it’s not their fault or anything, but I felt... all alone. Again. And then you guys took me out and gave me the best birthday I could have ever hoped for! You’re all so amazing!
You pule into the car and drive back to Kimi’s house. As she gets out...
Kimi: This was the most wonderful birthday I’ve ever had! I just wanted to thank you guys for everything! Autumn, this henna tattoo is beautiful! I’ll always remember it.
Autumn: Well, you can remember it for the next week at least!
Kimi: And Payton, the macaroon were the perfect sophisticated treat! And I swear I’m going to sleep in that outfit you helped me pick out!
Payton: That’s how I know it’s a good one!
Kimi: And Danny, you got me the best ‘car’ in town! Thanks for asking your friends at the go-kart place to help out!
Danny: It was a pleasure!
Kimi: And, last, Owen... you’re always looking out for me. You’re a great friend.
Owen: You are too, Kimi.
Kimi: Good night, you guys! And thanks for showing me that awesome birthdays are not about what you do, but about who you spend them with! This kind of birthday, the one where you hang out with close friends who really care about you... this is the thing I’ll remember for the rest of my life.

- A Girl Classmate wearing a Street Style Outfit Except Danny (Kate)
- Autumn
- Payton
- A Level 6+ Gamer (James)
- A Level 5+ Gamer (Isabella)
- Danny
- Autumn
