Requirements
London: Hi there, Danny!
Danny: Whoa! Looks like you’re, uh, full of enthusiasm today.
London: ‘Enthusiasm’, huh? You might even call it GLEE!
Danny: Well, it’s nice to see you so happy.
London: Well I’m not ALWAYS this way. I was just getting excited, remembering my glory days. At my old school, being part of the glee club was one of my main things... Singing and dancing are my two favorite things EVER. So a club that lets you do BOTH is the ultimate!
Danny: Heh. It does sound pretty fun.
London: To be honest, it’s been kind of bumming me out that we don’t have a glee club here. Without glee in my life I’m just... less gleeful!
Danny: Sounds like there’s an easy way to fix this problem... I’ll help you start a glee club!
London: That’s amazing! We’ll do it! Can you sing? Can you dance?!
Danny: I’ve got enthusiasm. I can’t sing or dance... but I can... smile?
London: That’s a great start! I’m sure we can work on your voice and dance moves! The important thing is, you’ve got the right attitude. This is going to be the best glee club ever!
London: There’s no time to waste! Sectionals are just around the corner!
Danny: Sounds like we’d better get started.
London: Yeah... I have to admit, I wouldn’t mind giving my old school a run for their money. The lead soloist kicked me off the team because he thought I’d steal his spotlight! But I don’t even care who does the solos. I just want to sing!
Danny: Sounds like your old glee club could use a little competition... And we’re just the people to beat them!
London Sounds good! I’ll put together a sign-up sheet!
Requirements
London tacks a sign-up sheet onto the school’s bulletin board.
London: At my old school, getting into the glee club was SUPER competitive... Do you think one sign-up sheet will be enough? Maybe I should print more!
Danny: Let’s start with one and see how it goes!
Time - 2 hours
A while later, Danny and London check the sign-up sheet.
London: One person?! Only ONE PERSON signed up?
Danny: Well... one is better than zero. And quality is more important than quantity! Who signed up?
London: Payton.
Danny: That’s perfect! Payton is a trendsetter! Where she goes others follow! With her on the team, we’ll be sure to add more people over time!
London: In that case, let’s tell Payton it’s time for our first club meeting!
Danny, London, and Payton meet after school...
Payton: Hi, Danny! I brought a headshot and a demo reel so you can get a sense of my musical style!
Payton opens up her laptop, and a video of her singing begins to play.
London: Wow! You’re amazing!
Payton: I know, right! So... am I on the team? Or do you still have to listen to the other auditions?
Danny: There are no other auditions.
London: Uh... but we’re hoping you can help with that! Especially since we see you as the club’s STAR!
Payton: Me? The STAR?
London: Sure thing! Given your talent, you should definitely take the solo!
Danny: Are you sure, London?
London: Of course! I’m just happy to be on the team.
Payton: In that case, I’m officially on the squad... and I think I know the next person we should add to the team! It’s time for us to do a little recruiting!
Requirements
Payton leads you out to the weight room, where Julian is doing bicep curls.
Julian: ...lifting weights... is pretty great... so please don’t hate...
Danny: I never noticed before... but Julian is constantly singing little songs to himself!
London: He’s got the voice of an angel!
Payton: I knew you guys would agree... Julian will be perfect for the glee club!
The three of you approach Julian.
Danny: Hey there! What’s the big idea? You can’t keep a talent like that to yourself!
Julian: You mean... my weight lifting ability?
Danny: I mean your voice! It’s incredible!
Julian: You weren’t supposed to hear me singing.
London: Well we did, and it was A-MA-ZING! The glee club could use a talent like yours.
Julian: I’m not joining some stupid glee club! I’ve got an image to protect! There’s nothing manly about singing songs while you’re dressed up like Lady Gaga’s butler!
London: You’re sure you won’t reconsider?
Julian: Sorry, London. I’m a jock. That’s my thing. I don’t do glee.
Payton pulls you aside and whispers in your ear.
Payton: I think I know how we can convince him. We’ve just got to frame this the right way!
Time - 6 hours
Payton walks up to Julian.
Payton: Glee CAN be manly, you know. Don’t you watch TV?
Julian: I mostly watch football... and home improvement shows.
Danny: Too bad you don’t watch MTV. Have you seen the VMAs? Everyone goes CRAZY for pop stars.
Payton: And male singers like Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z are TOTALLY manly!
Danny: And as a member of the glee club, you could be just like them!
Julian: People do like singer-guys, don’t they?
Payton: They really do.
Julian: Okay. You talked me into it. But the second you try to dress me like a backup dancer in a Miley Cyrus video, I’m out.
London: Deal. Welcome to the team!
London: That’s what I’m walking about! We’ve got our core group! Now we just have to get five or six backup singers to fill out our chorus.
Danny: Maybe a little performance would show off our skills... and entice a few more people to join.
London: Awesome idea! We can practice... and then perform at lunch tomorrow!
Danny: I’ll spread the word and make sure we get a huge audience!
London: You bring the crowd... and we’ll bring the show!
Requirements
At lunch, a crowd gathers to see the glee club perform.
Danny: Okay, trust me, guys. You’re going to love this.
Uma: I don’t see why we need a glee club. The cheerleaders already provide... cheer! That’s the same thing as glee!
James: Yeah, I don’t get it. It’s like playing a karaoke game... without the game!
Carlos: It’s just singing as far as I can tell. True art needs to tell a story!
Danny: Just give it a chance. You might change your minds!
Time - 10 hours
The glee club comes on stage and begins to sing and dance...
Julian: ...got my hands in my pockets...
Payton: ...and I’m staring down at the floor...
Uma: Oh wow! I LOVE this song! Maybe GLEE really is different than CHEER!
James: And getting a live audience’s reaction to your singing is pretty sweet. It’s like a music-themed MMORPG... IRL!
Carlos: That was so much more than mere singing... it was a true PERFORMANCE!
Danny: It looks like the performance was a hit!
The performance ends, and you circulate through the crowd.
Danny: Okay... who wants to sign up?
Uma: You can count on my voice!
Carlos: And my theater skills!
James: And my beatboxing skills! Bet you didn’t know I had THAT hidden talent, did you?!
A total of six people sign up!
Danny: We did it! We’ve got a full squad!
Julian: Does that mean... we’re ready for sectionals?
London: No way! Before that, we’ve got to practice... And we’re going to need some awesome costumes!
Danny: Good call. Let’s start with outfits for the female backup singers...
Requirements
Danny: These costumes look amazing!
Payton: Clothing coordination for the win! But I can pick out my own clothes, right?
London: Sure thing! The leads can wear what they want. It’ll make them stand out.
Julian: Heh. Perfect.
London: But I still want Julian to help me pick out clothes for the male backup singers! We’re going to the mall!
Julian: The... mall?!
London: I’m so excited! Which store do we hit first?
Danny: American Eagle?
Payton: Nordstroms?
London: Or for something a little more out there, maybe Hot Topic?!
Julian: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Isn’t that where vampires shop? Maybe a sporting goods store?
Payton: You’re not dressing our backup singers in jerseys and cleats!
Suddenly, Julian stops in front of a store window...
Julian: This! This is what I’m TALKING about!
Requirements
Danny: Wow! Good choices, Julian!
Payton: The cut of the shirt will really accentuate the backup singers’ physiques...
Danny: And they’re a near-perfect match with the girls’ outfits!
Payton: Another clothing coordination victory!
Julian: I just tried to pick stuff that wasn’t lame.
Danny: Okay... we’ve got outfits for everyone.
London: Time for our last few practices!
Over the next few practices, the glee club becomes a well-oiled machine...
Payton: My solos are ROCKING! La la la la la la la la LAAAAA!
Julian: And my harmonies are really coming along!
Danny: And check out THESE moves! That’s some choreography!
London: My old team isn’t going to know what hit them!
Danny: In that case, I think you’re saying...
London: We’re ready for sectionals!
Requirements
London: Okay, everyone. The bus is here!
Payton: A six-hour bus trip with a bunch of glee kids... I think I know what THAT means.
London: Singing, and lots of it!
Maya: I brought a karaoke machine!
Kate: Who’s ready to sing for six hours straight?!
Skylar: Me, me, me!
Julian: As long as you can promise to avoid ‘The Wheels on the Bus Go Round and Round’, I’m in.
London: I’ll take it off the song list immediately.
The team gets into the bus and heads to sectionals!
Time - 12 hours
After a long bus trip...
London: We’re here!
Maya: That went by way too fast!
Kate: I can’t wait for the ride back!
Skylar: Best bus trip ever!
Julian: Are you kissing me? I mean seriously, how many One Direction songs do you guys know?!
London: All of them!
Payton: I can’t wait for our performance!
Danny: I’ll go check us in while everyone else gets ready.
London: Sounds good... and make sure you watch out for my old team! They’ve been known to play dirty, so we’d better be careful!
A little later...
London: Okay, everyone. Ready to go on?
Julian: My vocal chords are all warmed up and ready to rock!
Danny: I’m ready too... but I think we’re missing one thing!
London: Oh yeah? What?
Danny: Our soloist! I haven’t seen Payton in an hour!
London: Oh no! We’ve got to go find her ASAP!
Requirements
Danny: Okay, everyone. We’ve got to find Payton. Now!
Julian: I’ll check outside...
London: I’ll check in the main lobby.
Danny: London, wait... If we DON’T find Payton, we’re going to need someone else to sing her solo.
London: That’s not an option. No one else is as good as she is!
Danny: That’s where you’re wrong. I’ve heard you singing backup for her... you’ve totally got the talent to pull this off!
London: That’s... that’s not an option!
London turns and heads to the lobby.
Danny: I guess we’d better find Payton!
Time - 16 hours
London: Payton! There you are!
Payton: Don’t look so worried, London! I was just hanging out with a few new friends!
She points to a nearby group of students, dressed in matching tuxes and cocktail dresses.
London: That’s my old team!
Payton: Really? Why’d you say they’re mean?! They were super nice to me! They even bought me ice cream!
London: Ice cream? Don’t you know dairy coats your vocal chords?!
Payton: That’s silly! I’m sure I can sing just fine.
Payton tries to sing a scale.
Payton: La la la la la la la la... urk! Oh no! You’re right!
London: What are we going to do now?
London: It’s over, guys. Payton can’t perform.
Danny: So that’s it? Are you just going to give up and go home? ...or are you going to do the solo?!
London: I... I can’t! I’m a backup singer. Not a star!
Danny: That’s just what the people at your old school wanted you to believe! ...but you know what? You don’t go to school anymore!
London: I... I don’t know if I can do it!
Danny: Come on, London! Dig deep! This is your moment!
Requirements
London: ...
Payton: Is London okay?
London: ...not star... backup singer...
Julian: Uh... I’m not sure...
Danny: Just give London a second, guys...
Julian: We don’t HAVE a second. We’re scheduled to go on next!
Danny: Come on, London... if you’re going to find your inner star, it’s got to be soon!
London stands very still, eyes-closed.
Danny: London? Are you ready to go on?
London: I...
Just then, London’s old team walks by.
Payton: I can’t believe those jerks gave me ice cream!
London’s old team just laughs and keeps walking. As they leave you hear something that sounds like... ‘London... just a backup singer...’ Suddenly, London’s eyes fly open.
London: We haven’t lost yet... Danny, I’m ready for my solo!
Julian: Heck yeah!
Requirements
The glee club flies onstage, and the performance begins! At first, everyone is singing together...
Julian: It is the first day...
Alex: ...don’t know where I stand anymore...
As everyone sings, they do a coordinated dance.
Kate: ...got my hands in my pockets...
Danny: ...I’m staring down at the floor...
The team performs a complicated set of dance moves: flips, pirouettes, and headspins! Until the moment arrives for London’s big solo!
Time - 23 hours
London takes center stage...
London: ...it’s okay if I don’t figure out everything overnight... It’s too late to turn back now... Gotta fight!
Julian: One!
Alex: Two!
Kate: Three!
London: Gotta be... everything that I can!
London rocks the solo! As the performance ends, the audience explodes in applause!
Danny: You did it, London!
London: WE did it!
Later...
London: I can’t believe we did it! First place!
Danny: Woohoo!
Payton: I’m just happy my ice cream snack didn’t cost us the victory!
Alex: The best part was when I got to yell ‘Two’. That rocked!
Kate: It was ALMOST as good as when I yelled ‘Three’!
Julian: Guys, come on. CLEARLY me yelling ‘One’ was the best!
Alex: Let’s just agree that it was fun... and we were all good!
Julian: I won’t argue with that.
London: Thanks for everything, Danny! I never could have done it without you!
Danny: Any time, London. Just try not to forget the little people once you’re a star!
London: There is no star on our team. And that’s just how I like it! Glee makes me happy, and thanks to you, I got a chance to sing. I’ll always remember this moment! Go glee!
